Our Biggest Build Yet - A Customized Vivarium Inspired by the Forest

There’s something incredibly special about bringing nature indoors but this project took it to an entirely new level. This was our biggest customized vivarium build to date, thoughtfully designed and installed right in our client’s home.

The brief?
Create a living ecosystem that resembles a lush forest landscape.

And that’s exactly what we delivered.

 

From the very beginning, the client envisioned a vivarium that would feel like stepping into a miniature rainforest. To achieve this natural forest effect, we carefully curated a diverse mix of plants, creating depth, texture and contrast throughout the enclosure. The goal was to replicate how plants grow organically in the wild, taller statement foliage rising above, mid-layer accents adding volume and ground plants softening the base.

Every forest needs structure and for this project, the main hardscape features were carefully selected driftwood and aquarium rocks.

The organic curves of the driftwood add movement and flow, while the textured aquarium rocks provide grounding and stability. Together, they create a natural terrain that feels untouched and authentic.

What made this build even more satisfying?

The earthy tones of the driftwood and rocks perfectly matched the client’s interior décor. The warm browns and muted stone shades blended seamlessly with the surrounding furniture and finishes, making the vivarium feel like it was always meant to be part of the home.

 

 

At the heart of the vivarium stands the stunning Bird's Nest Fern.

With its broad, rippling fronds radiating outward, this plant instantly anchors the entire design. Its lush green leaves create a strong tropical presence, mimicking the layered canopy of a real forest.

Beyond aesthetics, its sculptural form becoming a natural focal point within the space.

 

 

To elevate the forest theme, we introduced vibrant Bromeliad varieties throughout the vivarium.

Their bold colors, ranging from fiery reds to warm oranges and bright pinks, beautifully contrast against the deep greens of the foliage. These bursts of color:

• Add visual excitement

• Create depth and dimension

• Draw the eye across the entire display

The bromeliads don’t just sit quietly but they pop, instantly enhancing the overall look and making the vivarium feel alive and dynamic.
